Opportunity Program Specialist (PT)

Location: Utica, NY
Job Type: Part-Time, 12-Month

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a Opportunity Program Specialist in our Student Life department. The Opportunity Program Specialist plays a vital role in empowering students and promoting academic success within the MVCC Opportunity Program. They will design and implement engagement strategies and provide supportive services to ensure Opportunity Program students achieve their goals.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provides exceptional customer service and fosters a welcoming and supportive environment for all program participants.
  • Provides marketing and event support to recruit students for MVCC’s Opportunity Programs, annual summer academy, and special programs.
  • Assists in communication efforts to support student enrollment and retention efforts in a timely effective manner.
  • Supports, organizes, and coordinates the planning and execution of program-related events.
  • Enters, updates, and manages confidential student information in electronic files.
  • Manages the Opportunity Programs social media pages and mass communication to share updates, resources, and encouragement with students and applicants.
  • Schedules program staff appointments with Opportunity Program students and applicants. Responds to inquiries, and provide referrals as needed.
  • Coordinates the organization and preparation of special programs for Opportunity Program students throughout the year.
  • Develops expertise in Opportunity Program regulations, goals, and objectives to ensure recruitment expectations and priorities are exceeded.
  • Stays informed about best practices and trends in program administration and student services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Opportunity Programs.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11:00am - 4:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (or 60 credit hours completed) and two (2) years of customer service experience OR Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of customer service experience 
  • Self-motivation
  • Working knowledge of web-based tools and software
  • Willingness to learn and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude
  • Skilled at identifying needs and offering solutions to help others achieve their goals
