Athletic Trainer

Location: Utica, NY
Job Type: Full-Time, 12-Month

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking an Athletic Trainer in our Athletics department. The Athletic Trainer supports the health, safety, and well-being of MVCC’s student-athletes by providing comprehensive athletic training services. This role advances the College’s mission by fostering an inclusive, student-centered environment that promotes physical wellness, injury prevention, and equitable access to athletic participation.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive sports medicine program, including injury prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation for student-athletes.
  • Provides athletic training services at team practices, home and away competitions, and other athletic events as needed.
  • Evaluates and assesses injuries, provides first aid and emergency care, and refers student-athletes for further medical attention when necessary.
  • Educates student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, and conditioning techniques.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records for student-athletes, and communicates with coaches, faculty, and families as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper care and rehabilitation of injured athletes.
  • Coordinates transportation for injured student athletes to local orthopedic clinic, urgent care, emergency room, and sport related procedures.
  • Oversees the athletic training facility, including ordering and maintaining medical supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinates and schedules physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes.
  • Collaborates with coaching staff regarding safe conditioning practices and return-to-play protocols.
  • Performs other duties related to the job description and as assigned by the Dean of Athletics.

Work Schedule: Must have flexibility to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field
  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board certified
  • New York State Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility)
  • Experience working with student-athletes in an educational or athletic setting
  • NYS Driver’s License
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field
  • Experience with collegiate athletics
