Academic Coach (PT/Grant-Funded)

Salary: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Location: Utica, NY

This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking part-time Academic Coach in our Center for Corporate and Community Education (CCED) department. The Academic Coach supports student success by providing individualized guidance, encouragement, and academic support to students. This position helps students navigate program requirements, develop effective study and time management strategies, and connect with campus and community resources. The Academic Coach works closely to identify barriers to persistence and completion, empowering students to stay on track and achieve their educational and career goals.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

• Tracks course progress and supports success from program start to finish;
• Works closely with both non-credit and credit departments, faculty and staff to facilitate cooperation, participation, and effective communication in the interest of meeting common goals and objectives;
• Tracks statistics, maintains databases and generates relevant reports;
• Works with students on an individual basis to develop goals and assist them in meeting identified goals;
• Meets with students on a regular basis to ensure student understanding of coursework;
•  Recruits and onboards qualified individuals into training opportunities;
• Works closely with community constituencies and representatives of business, industry and non-profit organizations to identify and prioritize educational and training needs;
•  Uses technology to guide students and potentially implement virtual coursework as needed;
• Maintains accurate records of student attendance, progress, and certification achieved;
• Fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages growth and engagement;
• Other duties as assigned.

The hours for this part-time position will vary depending on student demand, with an average of 10 hours per week. Flexibility is required, as the schedule may include both daytime and evening hours.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree or a minimum of 60 completed college credits 
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with young adults from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to flex hours, if needed
